Veganuary is swiftly becoming the top January challenge and veganism is set to have it’s biggest year to date with record numbers signing up to Veganuary! Plus, Google trends show the search term for the word “vegan” is at an all-time high in the UK.
Launched in the UK in January 2014, Veganuary is a registered charity that encourages people to try vegan for January and throughout the rest of the year.
So far this year more than 120,000 people have pledged to give up meat, fish, dairy, eggs and honey for 31 days.
It represents a staggering 3,600% rise from the 3,300 people who signed up in Veganuary’s inaugural year in 2014 and almost half of the sign-ups are from the UK, where the relatively new campaign originated.
Many Dundee businesses have recognised the demand for Vegan produce, with its first all Vegan café launching in January 2018 and many more providing a variety of options, 2018 is shaping up to be a very exciting year!
Trying Veganuary for the first time, Andy Connelly from Dundee comments:
“Encouraged by my wife we started Veganuary at the turn of the year. I expected this to be really difficult however the options for vegans now are excellent and we have found it easy to make the transition.
We both love the healthy and guilty free food.
This has been an eye-opener and has spurred a lifestyle change we will be sticking to”
Veganism is now of one of the UK’s fastest growing lifestyle choices, seeing more than a 360 percent growth over the last decade, according to the Vegan Society.
There are so many reasons people decide to try vegan. For most, a love of animals is the catalyst. Some people want to feel better about themselves and the impact they make on the world. Others would like to set themselves a challenge, and many combine Veganuary with their ‘New Year’s Resolutions’ and see trying vegan as the healthiest start to the year.
Veganuary is dedicated to changing public attitudes while providing all the information and practical support required to make the transition to veganism as easy and enjoyable as possible. Veganuary has had an incredible degree of success in a very short time and is changing lives all over the world.
